A golden-hour session full of tall grass, puppy love, and the sweetest couple

I’m so excited to share Meg and Brett’s summer engagement session at Shaw Farm in Sutton, MA! This was my first time photographing at this hidden gem of a location — and wow, I already can’t wait to go back. Tall grass, golden light, and peaceful country vibes? Yes, please!

We had one of those HOT HOT July days, but Meg and Brett were total troopers in the heat — smiling, laughing, and making the most of every moment. They chose Shaw Farm because it’s close to their home and a favorite walking spot for them and their pup, Rory. Including him in the session was a must!

Meet Rory: The “Doggest of Dogs”

One of my favorite parts of their Shaw Farm engagement session? Rory! I always love it when my couples bring along their furry friends. This sweet black lab mix is four years old and full of personality. His humans describe him as “the doggest of dogs” — he loves digging, walks, cheese (who doesn’t?), and is adorably afraid of his own shadow… and the rain. He had the best time at our session and was full of energy!

Meg’s sister came along to help with doggy duty — which I always recommend if you’re bringing a pup to your session. It makes it so much easier to get a few great photos with your dog, then hand off the leash so we can focus on couple portraits. It’s also great to have someone there in case your four-legged friend needs to burn off some energy before their close-up — they can go for a walk while we get started with photos. Rory clearly knows he’s part of the family, and he did such a great job posing (and sniffing) throughout the session!

Their Love Story Before This Shaw Farm Engagement Session

Meg and Brett met on Hinge in May 2023 — and hit it off right away. Their first date was at Dino’s, followed two days later by ice cream at Rota’s (with a side of cow-watching and deep conversations). From the very beginning, they felt something special — like they were always meant to find each other.

Their lives were already more connected than they realized. Their older sisters had met years ago, Meg’s aunt worked with Brett’s mom, and even their neighbors and church retreat groups overlapped. It was like an invisible string had been tying them together all along.

The Proposal

Brett popped the question on Christmas morning while Meg was still in her bathrobe — a cozy, quiet, just-the-two-of-them moment at home. Tucked into the Christmas tree was a card from Brett with a message about a future trip to Vermont… “with your fiancé — presuming you say yes to the next question.” Cue the squeals! Meg said yes, and of course, Rory was there to celebrate with them.

Looking Ahead: Their Wedding at Kirkbrae Country Club

Meg and Brett are planning a July 2026 wedding at Kirkbrae Country Club — a modern venue with timeless charm (and bonus points: Brett is a golfer, so it’s a perfect fit). The bridesmaids will wear black with soft pops of color in the flowers, and they’re dreaming of a day that’s heartfelt, beautiful, and full of dancing.

Their vision? Elegant and fun — with amazing food and everyone on the dance floor all night long.

Why I’m So Excited for Their Wedding

Meg and Brett found me after seeing me in action at weddings for their family and friends, which is always such a huge compliment. They mentioned how easy I was to talk to and how organized everything felt — and that makes my photographer heart so happy! It’s going to be an incredible day, and I already know their wedding is going to be full of joyful, heartfelt moments.

Meg and Brett, thank you for braving the heat, bringing all the laughter, and sharing your story with me. I’m counting down the days until next July — and in the meantime, I’ll be looking back at these Shaw Farm portraits with the biggest smile.
