A Beautiful Summer Wedding at Jonathan Edwards Winery

Some wedding days just feel easy. The weather cooperates, everyone is smiling, and the couple is so relaxed and focused on what truly matters that the entire day feels joyful from beginning to end.

That perfectly describes Lizzy and Nick’s beautiful wedding day at Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, Connecticut.

From the moment my second photographer, Shannon and I arrived, there was a sense of calm throughout the entire venue. Both Lizzy and Nick got ready on-site, and the atmosphere in both getting-ready spaces felt incredibly relaxed and peaceful. There was no rushing, no stress, and no chaos—just genuine excitement, happy smiles, and the anticipation of finally getting married.

It set the tone for the entire day.

A Love Story That Started in 2020

Lizzy and Nick met at work and started dating in March of 2020 — right as the world was shutting down and life looked very different than it does today. What began during such an uncertain time grew into a beautiful relationship built on love, friendship, and support. A few years later, Nick popped the question on Christmas Eve, making an already special holiday even more memorable.

One of my favorite parts of their story is actually how we connected. Lizzy was a bridesmaid in Brianne’s wedding the summer before, and after spending the day together, she and Nick reached out about photographing their own wedding. Hearing that they remembered me from Brianne’s wedding and enjoyed working with me so much was incredibly meaningful.

A Perfect Day at Jonathan Edwards Winery

Jonathan Edwards Winery was the perfect setting for Lizzy and Nick’s wedding day. Nestled in North Stonington, Connecticut, the property offers beautiful vineyard views, elegant grounds, and so many wonderful locations for portraits. The weather could not have been more beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky, warm summer sunshine, and the kind of day every couple hopes for when planning an outdoor wedding.

Their navy blue color palette felt timeless and elegant against the winery backdrop, and the entire day was filled with laughter, happy tears, and countless smiles.

One of my favorite things about Lizzy and Nick was how relaxed and go-with-the-flow they were throughout the day. They truly focused on being present with their family and friends rather than stressing over the little things. Those are always the couples who enjoy their wedding day the most.

A Sweet First Look

Before the ceremony, Lizzy and Nick shared a private first look on the winery grounds. First looks are always one of my favorite parts of a wedding day because they give couples a chance to slow down, take a deep breath, and enjoy a quiet moment together before the celebration begins.

It was clear how excited they were to finally be getting married. After their first look, we were able to capture portraits and family photos before the ceremony, allowing them to spend even more time celebrating with their guests later in the day.

Celebrating with Family and Friends

When I asked Lizzy and Nick what they were most looking forward to on their wedding day, their answer was simple:

Being married. Dancing with their friends. Spending time with their families.

And that is exactly what they did! From their heartfelt ceremony to their lively reception, the entire day felt centered around the people who mean the most to them. One of the things I loved most was watching guests interact throughout the day. There was such a sense of community and genuine happiness surrounding these two. Their first dance to Annie’s Song was another beautiful reminder of just how much love filled the day.

One of My Favorite Winery Venues

Looking back on Lizzy and Nick’s wedding, Jonathan Edwards Winery remains one of my favorite venues to photograph. The grounds are stunning, the staff was wonderful, and there are beautiful portrait opportunities around every corner. But if I’m being honest, one of my favorite hidden gems at the venue was the wine cellar. I absolutely loved photographing in that space and already can’t wait for another opportunity to create portraits there. I loved photographing at Jonathan Edwards Winery and am already hoping I’ll have the opportunity to return again soon!

Congratulations, Lizzy & Nick

It was such an honor to document this chapter of your story. Congrats on your marriage, your growing family, and all the adventures ahead. Welcoming a baby in to the world is a wonderful way to celebrate your first anniversary!! I am so excited for everything the future holds for you both.
